Military Helicopters

Military Helicopters

Rc Helicopter

Traditionally, helicopters were used by the military for evacuating wounded soldiers or carrying weapons and supplies from one place to another. However, during the Vietnam War, helicopters were reinvented as an offensive weapon.

Although the military use of helicopters started during World War II, it was still in its initial steps of development. For instance, England and Russia used autogiros for observation duties, Germany used the Flettner FL 282 Kolibri for limited combat at the Mediterranean Sea, and the US Coast Guard used the Sikorsky YH-4A for dropping practice bombs against submarines.

Military helicopters were first used extensively during the Korean War, mostly for cargo delivery roles. The US Army started testing Bell 47 OH-13, Sikorsky S-51 H-19 and Piasecki H-21 helicopters fitted with machine-gun pods and rockets. The true revolution in military helicopters came with the Vietnam War, wherein the US Army demand for a new gunship helicopter equipped with the newly designed turbo shaft engines resulted in the invention of the Bell 207 Sioux Scout.

The Vietnam War also gave rise to the development of a new form of warfare known as air mobility, as helicopters enabled armies to be lifted deep into enemy territory, striking suddenly and powerfully.

Modern inventions have added more maneuverability for military helicopters and have also changed the design, outlook durability and safety of the machines. The most revolutionary change in helicopter engineering is the use of the NOTAR, or no tail rotar, design that blows air through a long slot along the tail boom, to produce forces to counter the torque.

Nowadays, most modern armies have formed new air combat units using choppers armed with anti-tank missiles, and helicopters have became a vital piece of military hardware in the inventory of the world 's powerful armies.

3D Helicopter Demo by Dave Herbert (NightFlyyer) additional an "Orientation TEST" for you. On YouTube.

*Heli 3D TEST. If you can follow my mild 3D flight and can tell exactly what I am doing the entire time with the transmitter sticks, then you are probably ready for 3D helicopters. At this point the learning process will begin again! Watching others fly helps me, so maybe this will help you. That is my goal.....to help so you don't learn the hard way like I did. Yes the sun does shine here in Iowa sometimes and the first flight today was that way, but the second was a bit windy and cloudy. Hmmm..back to normal! We have to learn to fly in the wind here, or we would never get to fly at all, and with these OLD EYES it is nice to have some sun shining on the model so a guy can see it.....especially without his orange pontoons! LOL. Remember "If it sounds stupid but it works, it ain't stupid!" Thanks for watching, subscribing, and all your continued support. All You Needed To Know About RC Helicopters

All You Needed To Know About RC Helicopters

Rc Helicopter

Flying a RC helicopter with your friends or kids is an exciting hobby for many. Here are some tips you would do well to remember when buying or flying these sophisticated little machines.

As I was entering the local park with my friend to jog in the morning, I saw a guy with a remote in hand right in the middle of the park, with a group of excited children around him. The guy was looking skywards pointing the remote to the sky too. With every button-press of the remote, the group of children was making loud noise and jumping in unison. When I followed their gaze, I knew what it was. It was a RC Helicopter (remote controlled helicopter) performing in the air.

I had brought the very same model for my son too a week before. It was RC AH-64 Apache Helicopter. I recollected how ecstatic my son had got on getting the model. I decided to put all information I had about the helicopter in form of an article and put it on the web, to help others know about it.

Today there are so many choices for a RC helicopter that choosing the right one is confusing. My recommendation is to get only 4 plus channel helicopters. It must have radio control duel propeller system and full movement control - forward, backward, left, right, up and down. It should also be fitted with co-axial rotor technology and rechargeable battery. Spare main rotor set should also be available with the kit.

Real the manual well before you begin flying your RC helicopters. Ensure you understand all the diagrams well and put all the parts in place. Properly configuring your little machine is essential. Check all the throttle linkages to make sure they are in the right position. Take good care of your foam blade holders to preserve the life of your mixing levers. You would do well to make a pre-flight list before you start flying. The list should include everything from the safety to the transmitters, linkages, screws and radio. Check out for the weather too before putting your toy in the air. and also check for the weather conditions before you go out to fly your RC helicopter. Be careful about the surrounding too. Never fly your helicopter in a place which has electric poles or such objects nearby.

Take your own time to learn the art of RC helicopter flying. Your machine can move in the air quite fast, and go really high. So practice to fly it carefully before doing any stunt with it. Learn to fly it in all directions. Learn how to use all the options in your remote effectively. The remote of a RC helicopter could seem complex in the beginning, but as the time passes by, you will become adept in using it. Spending proper time with it will help you to understand it well. Be mindful of the battery time otherwise it would come crashing to the ground.

Various types of RC helicopter are available in the market. These types are generally divided keeping in view the controls the helicopters have and their sophistication of make. The 3 channel RC helicopters are the easiest to control. Then come 4 channel RC helicopters which are more advanced than the previous version and a bit harder to handle. You would need some time before you master the remote. The latest version is the 6 channel RC helicopters which are the most sophisticated. To get excelled in flying this machine, you need to spend a lot of time.

RC Apache helicopters are the most in demand. They are the replica of the real ones which were used by the United States in the gulf wars. Models such as AH-64, 3CH Super Stable and 2CH Electric RTF are quite popular. However, before deciding to buy any of these, you would do well to read the review of the best RC Apache Helicopter machines available.

5 Steps To Piloting RC Helicopters

5 Steps To Piloting RC Helicopters

Rc Helicopter

Of all the RC crafts available, radio controlled helicopter is arguably the hardest to master. However, with the advent and advances of today's RC flight simulators, the learning curve have decreased. Now, new RC helicopter pilots can literally crash as often as they want until they can eventually keep their helicopter in the air. Nevertheless, conventional RC helicopter training lessons has not lost their importance. For some, they provide a guide to practicing in the simulator. For others who don't like simulators - or for some reasons can't get their hands on one, flying lessons are invaluable. For those that choose to go the no-simulator route, it is generally recommended that you hire a certified instructor. But, with the increasing popularity of cheaper electric RC helicopters, the cost involved with this hobby decreased exponentially. As a result, many new pilots are choosing to learn to fly with neither a simulator nor an instructor. No matter how you choose to learn to pilot RC helicopters, this article which provides classic helicopter lessons will definitely come in handy.

Lesson 1: First Feel of Helicopter / Ground Exercise

First things first, have your helicopter properly trimmed and set up before doing anything. Most electric models are already set up right out of the box. If your model requires any setting, make sure you follow the instruction in the manual or hire/ask someone knowledgeable to do it for you. Trimming won't be covered in this article because it is a whole topic in itself.

Once your helicopter is trimmed, you'll need a simple pair of training gear for bigger models. You can actually make one yourself using two four-inch rods and four balls (ping-pong balls will do nicely). However, it may be easier to buy one. If you are learning with a co-axle ready-to-fly electric helicopter such as the Lama or Walkera 54, then the training gear is unnecessary. On the other hand, if you are learning with a bigger and more conventional model such as the T-REX, then having a training gear is absolutely mandatory.

Now, you're going to pilot your helicopter for the first time. However, for this first lesson, the goal is to learn what it "feels" like to control one. Therefore, what you want to do is to bring up the throttle/collective to the point where the helicopter is just about to lift off the ground but not quite taking to the air yet. With the helicopter in this half on the ground, half wanting to lift off phase, move the cyclic control around and see as well as get a feel of how the helicopter will react to each control. Do this several time until you have adequately felt all of the controls and more importantly, understand them.

Lesson 2: Hover (Tail In)

Once you've mastered the ground exercise, the next step is to hover. Every helicopter pilot and instructor will tell you that one of the most (if not the most) important component of a helicopter flight is hovering. In fact, no matter how fancy the flight, at its most fundamental level, a helicopter flight starts and ends with a hover.

For this lesson, make sure the tail is pointing in towards you. Bring up the throttle to the point that the helicopter is just about to hover just as you did in the ground exercise. Then, get the helicopter as stable as you can get it. After doing that, give it a little more throttle/collective. Remember that you should make the helicopter stable on the ground first before giving it the extra throttle to lift it off the ground. Doing this will make this lesson much easier. When the helicopter starts to lift off the ground, it'll continue to ascend slowly. Bring the throttle down slightly to stabilize it at around 1 foot.

Next comes the hard part. Try to keep the helicopter hovering in one spot. This will prove to be very difficult at first. Draw on what you've learnt on from the ground exercise. Once you've hovered for around 30 seconds, bring the throttle down just slightly and the helicopter will start to slowly descend back to the ground. Don't throttle down too fast or your helicopter will come crashing down and be damaged.

Try hovering many times. Between each hover, reflect on what you did right and what you did wrong. You will find that each hover will be more precise and more controlled than the last.

Another important point during this lesson is to always point the tail of the helicopter towards you. Don't try to point the helicopter in any other direction at this point as you will very likely get disoriented. Orientation training will come later.

Once you're comfortable with hovering at 1 foot, try bringing the helicopter up to an altitude of 3 to 5 feet. It will seem scarier but in fact, hovering at 3 - 5 feet is easier than hovering at 1 foot. Keep doing this exercise until you can hover for an entire flight of the battery pack or the fuel tank, which equals to around 7 to 10 minutes if you're practicing on a simulator.

Each pilot takes different amount of time to learn this crucial skill. Some get it extremely fast (within days) while others take weeks or even months. Don't be discouraged, take your time and learn at your own pace. As long as you have fun while practicing, who cares how long it takes. Don't rush through this lesson. It is very important that you learn to hover and can do it comfortably.

Lesson 3: Basic Flight

Once you've mastered hovering, the next step is basic directional flight. Get your helicopter to hover as you've done in the last lesson, then pick a spot and pilot your helicopter there. Then pick another spot and do the same thing. At this point, you want to keep the helicopter in a tail-in position. Keep doing this until you feel comfortable that you can get your helicopter to go anywhere you want while it's in a tail-in orientation.

Lesson 4: Nose-In Hover

After having mastered hovering and basic flight while flying tail-in, the next step, the nose-in hover, will be relatively more challenging. The idea behind this exercise is quite simple; simply hover like you did lesson 2, but this time, hover with the nose of the helicopter pointed towards you. While this may sound simple, many new pilots find this extremely difficult due to the fact that most of all the controls are now reversed. At this point, you may already confident about flying and feel that you can easily perform this hovering exercise at a high altitude. Please refrain from doing that. Instead, start this exercise by hovering at 1 foot, then slowly increasing the altitude to 5 feet as you are more confident and comfortable with the now-reversed controls. Keep doing this exercise until you can master hovering with the nose pointed towards you. Having accomplished this lesson will greatly improve your orientation awareness.

Lesson 5: Square and Figure 8 Flights

This final lesson will combine the skills you've learnt from previous lessons, namely, hovering, orientation, and direction flight. The combination of these skills will produce a full flight. The first goal is to try to navigate your helicopter in a square pattern. If you've been following the exercise without cheating, you'll find that the square flight can be accomplished quite easily. The next goal would be to fly in a figure 8 pattern. This will prove to be more challenging but it is definitely not out of reach. As you do more and more figure eights, concentrate on keeping the 8 a perfect shape. Try your best not to veer off course. Becoming more experienced, you should aim for more and more flight control accuracy. Once you've mastered the figure 8, you should be able to pilot your helicopter anywhere you desire. Practice makes perfect, but also remember to have fun; after all, that is the whole point of a hobby.

RC Model Airplanes For Beginners

RC Model Airplanes For Beginners

Rc Helicopter

Flying model planes is fun and a great pastime. It's a hobby that the young and the old alike can embark with rewarding pleasure. There are many types of model planes, but perhaps the most engaging and fun filled to fly is the RC models, which give the pilot the freedom to control the speed and movements of the plane. But again, these models are designed to fit the experience of the pilot. There are some, which are good for the beginners, some for the intermediate flyers and also for the advanced aces.

If you are a beginner, there are various models that you should choose from. These models include Park Flyers and Trainers. Park Flyers are so called, since they are small enough to be flown around a large public park and can be docile enough, to be controlled even on enclosed areas like a gym or a dancing hall. Some of these models are bigger than others and so require a bigger open space. The ready-to-fly class of park flyers is quite popular among hobbyists, and both the beginners and the advanced class, due to their size and easy assembling. The park flyers have further been developed to produce the 3D-flyers. 3D-flyers are light planes, which have higher thrust and this enables them to fly vertically at a constant speed and their maneuvers are fun filled and advanced. Park flyers are inexpensive and can be easily controlled.

There are various brands in the market today of the park flyers. Some of these brands are C.C. Flyers and Ambassador from Megatech. These planes are easily controlled and great fun to fly them. The Ambassador model is more advanced with more controls. Other popular park flyers include A6M Zero, P51-D Mustang, Betty, Potez, and Avion Biplane among others.

Trainers are selected from the real trainer planes, which train pilots. These trainers models too have easy, but fun filled controls making them a good way to ignite the child in you. Among the trainers, Megatech Nitro Airstrike is one of the most popular and most versatile. This model is a nitro powered, ready-to-fly model, which is equipped with a 4 channel Airtronics radio system and M-46 ball bearing engine. The plane has a low wing loading, making it easer to control. Its wing span is 61 inches, made from the reputed balsa wood, which ensures durability and aesthetic value.

It is important though, to consider the accessories that come with these models. For example, you should consider, what type of batteries you want for your electric models, so that you can have fun without worrying about the plane ceasing, due to power failure. With batteries too will come the chargers. Select the chargers that are compatible with your batteries and which fit your needs, both financially and performance wise. Consider also the models, whose parts can easily be found in case of mechanical problems.

So, these are some tips and suggestions to choose and make your RC model airplane ride a pleasure for the beginners.

Beginners Guide To RC Planes

Beginners Guide To RC Planes

Rc Helicopter

There are various types of models planes, but the most popular among hobbyists are the Radio Controlled planes. Though they are fun to fly and every beginner is excited to lay their hands on these planes; it is important to know a few things about them.

As a beginner, you should know which type of plane to start with. There are many types of RC model planes, but the ones which a beginner can use are the park flyers and trainers. Trainers as the name suggest are the best models for one to start with. Trainers are easy to control or in other words they are user friendly. However, there are certain factors to consider before buying a trainer. First, your trainer should be easily repairable since there is a huge possibility that you will damager your trainer while learning and you don't want to put away your hobby for years just because the wing was slightly bent! Buy a model with fewer parts which can be fixed easily. You should buy a trainer whose parts are easily available so that in case of anything going amiss, you can easily buy a part and get it fixed. Lastly, buy a trainer that is stable enough not to give you a hard time controlling it. Seek advice from experts who have used these trainers to know which one is best for you.

You should also check the controls of your plane since the controls differ. Depending on the model, there are three main types of controls. The first is the basic type, and then the primary controls that allow you to have full rudder, throttle and elevator control and lastly the advanced set up, which has more options and inputs. If you are a beginner you should go in for the primary control. You should not ignore the accessories and equipment like battery charger, batteries, radio device and so on while buying your model plane.

Model RC planes come in three forms, the ready to fly, almost ready to fly and kits. The ready to fly models don't need much assembling after they are bought. One will need to fix just a few peripheral attachments like the wings. As for the almost-ready-to-fly, the buyer has to assemble most of the parts since they are not fully assembled. The kits come as chips and parts which one has to assemble from scratch. Assembling of the kits can take a few hundred hours to thousands of hours depending on the size and type of the plane you have bought.

Now that you are ready to take you plane to the skies, be careful not to fly it in public places with people or obstacles. And see to it that there is no one near you using the same radio frequency like yours since this will affect the controls of your plane. To sum up, remember, your success depends how calm you are while learning and flying.
